Lope de Vega y el teatro francés del siglo XVII

Abstract : This article discusses the reception of Lope de Vega’s work, specifically his dramatic compositions, in the French theatre of the seventeenth century. In addition to presenting the full picture and a description of those compositions by Lope that have been adapted to the French stage this article proposes some methodological observations that explain the difficulty of defining a textual corpus at a period when the practice of imitation does not obey the current standards. Moreover, the article stresses the need to take into account the construction of a certain persona around Lope de Vega, who is considered in France as the highest representative of the Spanish theatre as a whole.
