L'invention du comédien comme idéal anthropologique

Abstract : The Paradox on the Comedian gives the comedian a new status by setting him up as an anthropo-logical ideal, near of the hero, the philosopher, the poet, the saint or the cortegiano. The comedi-an becomes a sort of ‘great man’ or of genius. But Diderot does not only proposes a paradoxical status of the comedian : he also gives a paradoxical status to the philosopher and philosophy.
