"Retour de l'État" et formes de domination en Russie. Le cas de l’enseignement supérieur

Abstract : Since Vladimir Putin arrived in office in 2000, how has the Russian central government regained its footing in strategic sectors which largely escaped its control after the collapse of the USSR? On the back of oil profits, Central authorities are in a position to confront the legacy of social relations which effectively marginalized the state in the 1990s. The main thrust of the article is the way the Centre imposes itself as the dominant actor through the so called “power vertical”. Through an analysis of the field of higher education, the article seeks to demonstrate how new authority relations and modes of control and influence are established by the political regime.
