Le Coran et ses multiples formes (Casablanca, Maroc)

Abstract : The Koran exists in many forms. In Casablanca, in the district of the Arab booksellers, one can find it in different sizes - big, small or miniature- bound or unbound, boxed or not- the boxes may be of velvet, or sometimes of leather. To what uses are these different types of Korans put? What roles are these Korans asked to play whether by customers, publishers or government authorities? The article focusses on the significance of the material forms of the Koran. It examines the stuff out which the Korans are made in order to study the effect of physical appearance on the way the word of God is appropriated.
