In the present article, we seek to understand the reasons for spatial anchoring and/or daily mobility and more specifically to know if spatial registration of mobility practices reflects spatial inequity, social inequality between households or a real choice from them. Whereas spatial and social inequalities can be translated into quantifiable indicators, the concept of the interaction with living environment is more difficult to apprehend. This is why we question the meaning given by each individual to its living environment and to its spatial practices to understand choices done in terms of spatial inscriptions and as a consequence mobility. Based on the results of empirical studies of recent research on nine residential areas located in two cities: Paris and Rome, this articles evaluates the effects of the interaction to the living environment of the inhabitant’s practices and shows the adjustment to the individual and his living place and the link between anchoring and mobility.

Dans cet article, nous cherchons à comprendre les raisons de l’ancrage et/ou de la mobilité et plus précisément à savoir si l’inscription spatiale des pratiques est le reflet d’iniquité spatiale, d’inégalité sociale entre les individus ou bien d’un réel choix de leur part. Si les inégalités spatiales et sociales trouvent leur traduction dans des indicateurs quantifiables, comprendre le rapport qu’entretient l’individu avec son cadre de vie est en revanche plus difficile à appréhender. Ces considérations nous amènent à nous interroger sur le sens que l’individu donne à son espace de vie et à ses pratiques pour comprendre les choix opérés en matière d’inscriptions spatiales et conséquemment en matière de mobilité. Basé sur des résultats de travaux empiriques d’une récente recherche reposant sur neuf zones résidentielles réparties dans deux agglomérations : Paris et Rome, cet article évalue les effets du rapport à l’espace de vie sur les pratiques des habitants. Il montre à travers le rapport à l’espace un ajustement entre l’individu et le lieu et le lien existant entre ancrage et mobilité.
