L'autopsychologisation ou l'alibi du bouffon : pressions envers les déviants chroniques selon le moment et l’origine de la découverte de cette chronicité

Abstract : Several studies have demonstrated that communications within a group are preferentially directed toward the deviants. These pressures only stop when the deviant conforms himself or when the majority abandons all hope of success. But the literature does not say anything about the reactions of the majority facing a deviant, who reveals an usual deviance by himself or whose deviance is lately discovered by group. Seven groups of students (N = 53) participated in this study. Three accomplices were playing the role of deviant : one was was self-designated at the beginning of the interaction, the second and the third one were designated by the experimenter either at the beginning of the interaction either later. We measured the number and duration of verbal interactions. Results show that the method and the moment of imputation of deviance change the nature of the pressures. When the deviance is self-reported or is late discovered, the group exerts significant pressure. When the deviant is immediately discovered, an initial rejection of deviant is observed.
