Mettre en scène l’observation. Écriture filmique d’une enquête ethnographique en milieu pentecôtiste

Abstract : This article is based on research conducted within an African Pentecostal church in the Paris region. It re-examines the conditions of possibility of the production of anthropological knowledge through the adoption of a filmic approach. The difficulties I encountered regarding my immersion in this Pentecostal church led me to use a movie camera as a methodological supplement. It enabled me to better adapt my research position to this space of conversion, which, even if it does not readily tolerate the intrusion of an external observer, is always disposed to integrate a camera within its cult apparatus. The fact that these Churches can be defined as media spaces allows then for a reconsideration of the principles of this approach, and more generally of the heuristic virtues of staging the distance of observation, from which ethnographic data are produced.
