¿ Viva la muerte ? Thanatos mis en scène à l’ombre d’Eros : Analyse d’une catharsis à double imbrication

Abstract : From collected or published interviews of bullfighters, bullfighting enthusiasts and breeders of fighting bulls, as well as from direct observations, this article analyses the staging of death in the bullfight rings: that of animals but also of men. How have these bloody manifestations come to be recognized as artistic? Sexuality is ubiquitous, especially as shown in terms of gifts and of risks of the body. One of the mainsprings of artistic claim seems to lie in the transgressive character of this hybrid show, full of both Christian and pagan mysticism, which articulates fighting and sacrificial dimensions, and proposes, in fine, an intertwined dual catharsis.
