Paramètres contribuant à la construction des interprétations temporelles des énoncés complexes de la forme

Abstract : This study focuses on sentences in which the connector WHEN is postposed. It proposes that WHEN does not intrinsically express temporality: the expression of temporal succession or simultaneity depends not only on the operations that WHEN is a trace of, but on other determinations in the context. When used to link clauses that refer to complex notions that have the property /bounded/, WHEN enables the process denoted in the clause it introduces to determine the first clause in the sentence : the end point of the second process in the linear order of the sentence marks off the beginning of the first. This creates succession and causation. If there is a temporal landmark, it will encourage the reader to interpret the events as being simultaneous, rather than organized in a succession. Finally, if the first clause was validated before the sentence was formulated, the WHEN-clause will be interpreted as indicating the circumstances of the first clause.
